Hello all you XJ6 experts, how can I determine if I have the BW trans or the GM? I have a leaky seal on the pan and want to order a gasket. 1982 XJ6 VIN SAJAV1245CC336002

if it is a 3-speed automatic, most likely a BW66. I don't think the Series 3 XJ-6 came with a GM unless it was a conversion by the previous owner.

Thanks Jose. Also, It is below zero here in Montana and although my Jag is garaged, it is not much warmer in the garage. Do you have any thoughts on a block heater?

Walter, I have never used a block heater in my Jag but I know Jaguar offers one for the 4.2 engine through any Jaguar dealer. I did use one in a different car in the 1980's and it was a source of leaks. Removing the block plug was a nightmare.

why not heat the garage instead? A couple of cheap electric heaters and a cheap fan from Big Lots, Harbor Freight Tools, HomeDepot, or Lowes ?

Let me know when you are ready to verify the wires at the Hazard Switch.

Jose is right, a(Borg Warner) BW66. Only the V12s had GM transmissions (with the exception of some Jaguar/Daimler limosines...which none of us are likely to ever see).

Some early Ser IIIs had a BW65 trans which is nearly identical. The BW66 was just a tad bit more rugged. I'm 99.9% sure that an '82 would be the '66, though. They use the same seals and gaskets.

Thanks guys. Where should I get a new gasket for the leaky pan? It isn't drastic, just a few drops daily, but that adds up I guess. I got my master cyl resivour from Ken on his ebay store, he probally has gaskets as well. I'll look.

Jose, I haven't had time yet to tackle the turn signals, but when I do Ill be sure to post back.

have you gone around the pan tightening all the bolts ? doesn't sound like you need to replace the gasket, but if you do, Motorcars Ltd. will have the BW66 Service Kit which you might as well do if dropping the pan. And this time use Type FA transmission fluid.
