XJ6 Won't Start Today!
 

Hello Everyone out there in Jaguar Land,
Today I decided to start my 1995 XJ6 only to discover that it would not start for me! The engine will turn over, but it will not start! I had this problem with my '02 SC430 and when it was towed into the dealership, the fuel filter needed to be changed. Can anyone give me any tips without me getting it towed into the dealership to find out what the problem is? My trip to the dealership to get a master key cut was $112.00!

not familiar with 1995 XJ but generic troubleshooting would be to check the obvious: is the car out of gasoline?? if ok, are there gasoline leaks or smells anywhere?? (open the trunk). Have you checked all Fuses? (the Owner's Manual will tell you where they are). Open the hood: Are the ignition wires properly in place?? (at the coil, at the spark plugs, at the ignition cap?).

more involved would be to make sure fuel is getting to the engine through the fuel injection system, and to check the fuel pump Relay. I don't think a fuel filter would cause it to not start, unless it was totally clogged and that just doesn't happen too often.

Take it to an independent Jaguar mechanic if all else fails to start it, ask them if they service the 1995 models, their hourly rate, if they try to sell you a Fuel Injection Cleaning Job, just say no.
