XJC: Interior side back in a coupe

Does anyone know how to remove the side back interior in a coupe? See picture.

first remove the ash tray from its housing, there must be a screw behind it.

then remove the 2 or 3 screws at the bottom of the arm rest.

the top point of the hand pull is usually a metal bushing attached to the hand pull, and to remove it, you push it up until it releases from a two-sized hole.

the card or "panel" is held in place with clips at the bottom and side edges. you need a "fork" tool to slide it behind the panel at each clip. A screwdriver can be used too.

1. Peel off edge trim at front of door panel. Then peel back the vinyl that is glued to the body, there will be 1 screw at the bottom and 1 screw nearer to the top which are exposed when pulling back the vinyl.

2. Remove the chrome cap on the arm rest. There should be 1 tiny screw holding it on. This will expose another screw that needs to be removed.

3. Remove the rear seats... Looks like you already accomplished this. Two screws at the bottom of the seat bottom. Once the seat bottom is removed it will expose to more screws at the base of the seat back. Remove the seat back by sliding it up.

4. Use a plastic forked trim tool to pry on the plastic clips right behind the fold and pop them out of their holes. You can access them from the front edge becasue the screws were removed in step 1 and the flap can be folded back for access.

5. Remove seat belt by prying off plastic cover to expose a 11/16 or 5/8 bolt at the top and so the same for the lower in the sill.

6. Remove the panel by pulling it out at the bottom.

Be prepared for some breakage around the seat belt trim and rear pocket. These old plastics get brittle and crack easily 40 years on.

I didnt know that the vinyl was actually supposed to be glued to the body, thought it was some previous owner who messed around…Seems like some designer at Jaguar had a bad day =)

The vinyl is there to act as a water shield. Avery common practise!
