Default 1982 xj-s v12

Well not sure what to do with it yet but she recently came across my scales. I felt it was in pretty good condition when I saw it but beauty is only skin deep. So she has 3 faiths... 1. to the shredder, 2. break her down and part out, or 3. bring her back to life! Not sure what to. This is my second Jaguar in a year and in my life. Any thoughts or opinions?

When I got my '87 XJ-S in the fall of 2012 part of the decision making process was how much I'd have to spend to get it up to snuff. I was fortunate that the body and paint were in pretty good condition.

Can't tell from the photos, but do you think it will need paint? I know stripping and painting can be around $7K or so. If the paint is good and it's not a total wreck under the bonnet I'd go for it.

Interior looks pretty good...

Cheers,

John

The paint is in so-so condition probably will need paint. I still need to look under the hood and chassis. I'll need to see if I can get a title for this vehicle too. If not might be up for part out.

Way too nice to shred. Start with this:

- buy a tub of leatherique, neatsfoot, or whatever your preferred leather treatment is
- slather it ALL over the leather surfaces
- wrap in black trash bags or saran wrap
- leave it in the sunshine for a week
- remove the bags, wipe off the excess, and marvel at the luxurious smell that greets you each and every time you open the door of this 30 year old coupe

Then treat the exterior to some rejuvenation. By the time it warms up, the car will be looking so good you'll be dying to fix up the mechanicals and drive it.

Way too nice to scrap.

Always look for rust in the usual areas, turn the engine over fast enough to listen for clatter from dropped Valve seat, definitely a project car but well worth it if the preceeding items pass muster. The rest is just time and a lot of fun, best, JW

'82 is a great year (besides still being British Leyland), it has cool dash clock, instead of ugly and useless trip computer.
I'd buy her, if body is not rusty.
Save her, here is my '82...
