1987 xjsc v12 remove and replace starter
what do you have to do to remove starter.
|
Disconnect the battery first.
Remove the down pipes, and if it's RHD remove the lower steering column from the rack. Remove the wires from the starter. Undo the bolts, there is a 7/19 bolt that is above the transmission and can only be removed with a 3/8 drive 12 point 7/16 socket. This bolt is real PITA. The starter will come out with a bit of wiggling. If you have a starter issue I would strongly suggest replacing it with the smaller reduction gear unit, these are MUCH smaller and a 1/3 of the weight and much easier to get in and out. |
Is the 12 pt 7/16 bolt aceess from the front or rear. I cant even see it on a '92 with smaller starter motor?

My local Jag tech leaves the starter wires attached, and removes the firewall connections instead. He says it's easier. For installation, attach all wires to the starter, then feed the wires up to the firewall. I've never done it though,

I got it out. The late '91 Marelli starter is smaller than the Lucas rebuilt starter.

Probably concealed under a layer of gunk I use a couple extensions and a swivel to remove it. Cheers DD |
