1991 XJS rack & pinion leak
Hey guys - question concerning a small, weeping leak coming from the input steering shaft of the rack?
I know there are remanufactured replacement units out there for aprox $275, but I was wondering if the seals/O-rings can be successfully replaced, and where I might hunt them down. The car only has 54,000 miles on it, so I feel if it doesn't have to pulled and replaced, I'm willing to try it. Thanks in advance for your words of help.

91 1991 Jaguar XJS Steering Rack - Steering - A1 Cardone, Maval - PartsGeek
you can get one from the rack doctor with a life time warranty though...
I think that one is 269
1982-1992 Jaguar XJ12 RACK AND PINION
you have to choose... if you are fixing it to sell... yeah do the seals o rings
If I was going to keep it I would go with the life time warranty...

I must admit, I never thought of an additive stop-leak. In the very early days of these products, while I was just a young cub working in a service station/learning....it was considered a very 'last resort'!! It really gums up the insides something horrible.....no going back....except a replacement.
I'm using the A1-Cardone. My experience has been that that they market very good quality parts....I've used more than a couple of their axel/CV joint Assemblies. Guess we will wait as see on the reman of the rack & pinion!
But......what a BEAR to get reinstalled!! It's like a chinese menu.....choosing from column A or Column B? Do You want to get it mounted 'OR' tighten the line fittings?? Not both. And I was foolish enough to think that the front motor mounts were difficult! What a walk in the park!!
I got the lined installed, but not tight, then the pinch bolt in....when I realized that it was 'clocked' incorrectly! Does anyone see any problems with just turning the steering wheel, to get it into proportion??
Thanks
