1992 jaguar xjs evaporative loss flange

So my mechanic discovered the leads to the fuel pump overheated a the connector which is part of the 1992 jaguar xjs evaporative loss flange (mounted on top of tank opening and part of the fuel pump housing). But this critical part is not available and so I am searching for one. There is one available for the next newer model (93-94, 95-96) but it has one less tube connection so can't be fitted.
Or can the evap system be eliminated?

Any ideas where I can find a used part? Looks like this:

I may have one in my spare parts collection. I had a spare when I owned my '92. I'll take a look tonight.

The electrical connection on top of that flange is a common failure. Occurs on the XJS and the XJ40 of that era. Some people just drill holes through the flange and run the wires through it rather than rely on the electrical connectors. Or insert 2 threaded posts into the holes they have drilled, and connect the wires to each end of the posts inside and outside the tank. I can't recall the specific one, but one of the permatex formulas or similar is purportedly gasoline proof and will maintain a seal around the wires or the posts. A small leak there though can lead to odors in the boot and cabin.

Hi gccch

I am really starting to wonder if 'The Shop' had fitted the correct Fuel Pump to your Car, because I had exactly the same problem on my 1995 XJS Convertible when I fitted a New Fuel Pump

Having ordered what I thought was the correct Fuel Pump for my Car, when it arrived it looked exactly the same as the one I took off except for one small difference

The Original Plug and Socket (The 2 Wire Loom) from the Fuel Pump to the Evaporator wouldn't fit into the Fuel Pump because the Socket on the Fuel Pump was just a very slightly different size

As while this Original Loom plugged straight into the Evaporator, the Plug on the Other end of this Loom wouldn't Plug into the Fuel Pump

Although I could have made it fit if I filed the Plug down, I didn't want to bodge it for fear a Spark might set the Car on Fire and so I sent the Fuel Pump back and ordered one from a different manufacturer

Only this time Double Checking that my 'Original' 2 Wire Loom would plug into the Fuel Pump 'Which it did!'

So maybe that's what happened with your Car?

In which case a New Fuel Pump with a Socket on it, to take the Plug from the Original Loom, could well solve the problem, just like it did for me

Knowing that there are a lot of 'Badged' Fuel Pumps about, I got one off ebay for only £15 and it works great!

Same with the V12 Fuel Pumps as they are Generic as well, so no need to pay a fortune when you don't have to

On my second attempt I made sure that the Fuel Pump I ordered had a Socket on it that would accept the Plug that was on the Original 2 Wire Loom

Where this time (using the original loom) I had a perfect connection between the Pump and the Evaporator
