Classic sign of a bad earth. You will need to remove and clean all the earths in the boot. Download the electrical guide and it has the location of all the ground points in the car. I would concentrate on the ones in the boot.

Further to Warrjon's points, the tail light unit earths right by the unit, I seem to remember, and this might be the bad earth, so worth looking at first. If nothing changes after that, or your car does not earth there, the unit is removed from the rear inside the boot, by undoing three small nuts from studs attached to the actual unit. But first remove the plastic lens from outside (two or three screws easily visible) and check that the bulb and holder are not rusty or dirty.

Hello Darren

Just did both my tail lights.

Went to my local Bunnings store and purchased
Double sided tape - commercial automotive mounting tape - water proof and high heat resistance (Permastik) and put this on the fixture
Then put Moroday rubber rectangle 3mm x 6mm EPDM Sponge onto the double sided tape. (I did have to glue the seal join)

I also placed aluminium tape behind and in top of the turn indicator bulb, just because the it was a bit dull

Screwed in the lens.

Has been raining extensively here over the last week - appears no water ingress
