Default 90 Jaguar XJS starts cold but conks

Hey guys and gals,
good to see such an active forum.. hopefully ye can help narrow down my problem.
i own a 1990 XJS 5.3L coupe with 66,000m living in Ireland

The car has been in storage the past 7 years and was occasionally driven.
it always started fine first time on the key but lately it will still start first time, when cold and runs for a minute or so then conks. If I try to start it again after it conks it will just keep turning and will not fire up!
I can leave it for a few hours or the next day and same thing...starts first time, runs for a couple minutes, then dies..

It's definitely not the fuel pump as I have put in a replacement pump to eliminate one possibility..
Anybody have similar issues or know the best place to start other than fuel pump?
Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the forum Frank,

I've moved your question from UK & Eire Region to XJS forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

That is almost certainly a blocked fuel filter. When left for long enough, you can get sufficient fuel seeping through to start the car, but it soon runs out, and won't run again until it's had enough time for more fuel to come through.

This sounds like a possible fuel feed main tank to sump tank problem. The hose gets weak and collapses. I would start by renewing the hose between the two tanks and cleaning out the sump tank and changing the filter behind the spare wheel. Then as part of this blow out the fuel line to the engine bay.
