AC and Heater
 

OK, I have 90 XJS convertible. During the winter I turned on the heater and it was great for about 10 Mins. It then crept up to cold air coming out.

Last week, I paid my mechanic $1300 to replace my AC compressor and the other ac components. I got to take it out today for a real drive in the heat of the day to try it out. After about 10 Mins the AC which was blowing good and cold crept up to blowing warm air.

Going out on a limb here I assume there is a sensor that controls the blend door not working. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

More of an end-around than a fix (if one's required at all), but have you tried running your A/C in manual mode rather than automatic?

On my '88 (don't know about your '90), if you pull out the temp control on the left side of the dash, it puts it in manual mode and continually blows cold air rather than attempting to control the temperature of the cockpit.

Sorry happy to report that I found an inline fuse popped. Did the replace ment and ac worked fine. Thx.

on the issue of manual mode for heat, I tried that last winter and no luck.

Not so fast. As I said in my previous post, I found a fuse that had popped. I replaced it and later that day it popped another one. I have repeated a few times to realize something else is going on. I look up in the XJS Help book and it said that a modification under the dash was needed. It seems that water from the condensation gets trapped and for that reason shorts out the system. So I dug into the dash and cleared out the pipes that are to drain the water from the unit. It is still blowing fuses however and doing so instantly.

I am now assuming (for all that gets a person) that the short is somewhere else. Any ideas where to look or how to trouble shoot it?
