Accumulator pump motor removal
 

This is my first time on here and my first post. If I'm not doing this correctly, please say so.
I am getting ready to remove the motor from the accumulator pump on a '88 XJS.
It appears to me that when I do this it will drain all the brake fluid from the reservoir because of the seal on the motor shaft. Am I correct or not?
Any tips on doing this are appreciated.

Yes. Either way don't work on this system without a manual. I think the xj-s manual on CD is available for GBP 10 on ebay.co.uk

Thank you for your advise. I do have the four shop manuals. Have also found that a 4mm Allen wrench will loosen the two motor holding screws.
One more question, please? In the shop manual it appears that the motor shaft is just notched into the pump ecventric rotor. Do you know if this is true, or is the shaft screwed or clipped someway to the pump rotor?

I'm sure others will chime in if i remember wrong but yes I believe it was a sumple pull apart with no further fastening.

I think I'd heed the prior warnings about this pump. Here is a document that has some diagrams and other information on your MkII brakes. That's a high pressure pump, obviously, and I'd be very careful in trying to disassemble it. At the very least, I wouldn't try until I was prepared to cough it up for a new one if something went wrong.

Thanks for all your advise. Here is an update after today: motor is fine; pump is locked solid! Whole system seems full of mud! (Brake fluid and dirt, I'm guessing.)
Disassembly was fairly easy and I know to get new o-rings before I go back with it.
Going to try soaking the pump in denatured alcohol for a day or so, hoping to get it freed up so I can flush it.
Will have to have entire brake system totally flushed.
Would prefer to buy a full new unit but having a problem finding one.
Why won't a '90 model system that looks identical in every way work on a late '88 model?
Any thoughts appreciated.
