Air cleaner rubber mounts AJ16 4.0 engine

Hello all,
I need to replace the two rubber mounts that fix the air cleaner to the engine side wall. The front one is perished but still holding and the rear one is perished completely and weight of the air cleaner and elbow to the TB is supported by the rubber bellows. I can't seem to figure out what is missing to mount the rear one as the rubber mount comes off the left wall horizontally but the bracket on the intake elbow seems to look for a fixing that is vertical. Is there another bracket that is missing? Can someone take a pic how the rear portion on the elbow mounts or attaches to the rubber mount.
...and what's with the price of the rubber mounts! The mounts, which seem like universal isolators are astronomically pricey! The same kind found on BMWs (to mount the secondary air pump) are hell of a lot cheaper. Anybody use the BMW ones or know of reasonably priced substitutes?

$56.00 for one isolator! Are you kidding!

$2.73 for one isolator from a BMW parts store. Now that's reasonable. Are they "exactly" the same? I think close enough.

Cheaper at rock auto... still $15 each!

Ludicrous.

I am not around today (celebrating Eagles win in Philly) but I will share with you a similar part I bought from RockAuto for, I believe, less than $2/part. It was by URO, and you might need new bolts because the threads are different than OEM, but they fit, they work, and they were reasonably priced!!!

Bottom line is: there is no need to go oem here. You just need a part that looks the same and fits.

Daim 02-08-2018 02:55 AM

Is the thread metric or imperial? If metric, the BMW part will fit. If imperial, it won't.

We could do with a thread about interchangeable parts. Save some money

carsnplanes 02-08-2018 06:04 AM

The only concern I would think there might be is if the engine side wall capture nut was a a particular thread. I have not gone into detail about looking at how the aft and fwd rubber mount, mounts to the side fire wall. It appears by the standard look of the rubber isolator, that there would be a nut on the other side as there would be on the air cleaner attach bracket. If that is certain to be the case, then any isolator with a matching nut would work. The main idea of the isloator is to suspend the the air cleaner to the side wall.
Does anybody know if the side wall uses a welded in threaded capture nut on the wall or just a removable nut accessed through the wheel well.

I am truly amazed...

Guys
Anti-vibration mounts are sold all over the place, just google them. No need to buy overpriced ones at all.

Yes, agreed. I was just amazed at what places were charging for them. I can't imagine that they have sold this at this particular price of $96.00. Yes, many cars use the same isolator which begs the question as to why and how certain places could list them at these inflated prices and expect anybody to pay them.

This is one of those really weird things that come along now and then. Jaguar OEM (EAC8130) is $56 each which makes you wonder what kind of screwball vendor/manufacturer contract Jaguar got themselves into

As for internet/Ebay vendors, well, one wonders if they're just hoping someone will click-and-buy without doing any shopping around. I dunno.

Meanwhile, other Jag parts (or any other make, really) are remarkably reasonable.

Cheers

Oh, believe me, you will not be seeing me pay even close to that. That's outrageous.

Vee 02-09-2018 07:37 AM

I bought URO parts labelled “EAC6806” and “TW2315”

There’s also a bar code with “847603004321” on it. I bought a bunch for less than $2each, from RockAuto, I believe.

carsnplanes 02-09-2018 08:31 AM

Even if someone said (and i don't think there will be one person who will), "the $96.00 one will last longer than the $2.00 one". I can buy a sh#t load of $2 ones if they are truly any less robust or reliable than thr $96.00 one. Heck, I'll change them every year if I have to at $2.00.

Vee 02-09-2018 10:48 AM

Its on RockAuto for $0.99/ea right now plus shipping.

The threads are the same, just longer by a few centimeters. I bought a few of them back in the day thinking the same as Carsnplanes said. They've lasted several years so far, and I've been in and out of the engine bay a lot.

What car make are they under for .99cents?

Vee 02-09-2018 04:40 PM

Not sure. I just typed in EAC6806 under part number and that’s what came up!

Just found it . Thanks. Interesting that it would be a P/N not associated with any car make or model. I'll buy a box full and sell them for $96.00 ea.

Not that Rockauto is "the man" but my personal take is $2.95 isn't a wild price and im glad to give Welsh Enterprises my business.

That being said, I'm sure a slightly longer version would work okay, the brackets are all pretty bendable and I had to fix mine when I re-attached the airflow sensor in my XJ6.
