Air Conditioner Side Vents

Both the side vents in my 93 XJS do not blow very strong while the center vent will blow at hurricane force on high. My question is: is that normal?
I replaces the transistor on both blower motor controls and get low, medium, and high speed from the blowers with appropriate temperatures.

I presume it's normal as mine does that too.

To get better air control I modified an XJ40 center vent to fit, this does away with the useless bit in the middle of the XJS one that blows cold air to the back seat

As it started out.

After being modified and welded back together

Thanks for the confirming info on the side vents.
On your modification did you modify the panel? What medium did you use to on the plastic panel?
The modification looks great!

The plastic was cut with a dremel and welded together with an old soldering iron to fit into the wood trim. The wood was not modified.

With the air controls on the side the vent was too wide to fit, I had to do and extensive cut and shut to get it to fit and look OEM. The wood trim does hide where I removed the outside flange.

I am looking at a vent system from an XJ6. Measurement being sent. Don't know if it will fit yet. Glad to hear the plastic can be welded with a soldering iron.
Looked at pictures of your car. Beautiful restoration. Be careful of those Yank tourist on the wrong side of the road!
Again thanks for the info

I've read in several places that a double vent (rather than the usual triple vent) from a late-model XJS will basically slip in place if you just use a round file to grind a bit of the dash metal away so the new vent's lugs can fit. This is something I plan on doing myself in the near future. From what I read, welding is not needed.

I replaced my center vent on my 91 conv with the late model one. Very little work to make it look & work correctly . I can't find the part # but I believe Kirby's Book gives the info & # of this vent

I believe Jaguar World Mag. did an write up with pic's . Maybe JWM has archives you can look up.

XJ40 vent fits the triple vent fine with small trimming to the XJ40 vent that's what's in my 86 XJS, very easy to do.

I found late model XJS vents impossible to find, which is why I modified an XJ40 vent.

The controls need to be cut off as the vent is way too wide and you need to add a bit of plastic to the side to prevent air escaping behind the fascia.
