Belt change:icon_eek:
When was the last time any of you decided to change all 4 belts? Needed to replace the fan clutch and decided: Oh what the H___, I'll go ahead and change the belts too. Darn the British!!!!!! 2 hours just to get them all off, will not get to put the new ones on for a few days, but I need the break anyway!!!! :-):icon_screwy:

Yep, thats why I run thermo fans and only 3 belts.
The first time I did all the V12's those adjuster bolts were so damaged, I put ALL new ones on with anti-sieze on the threaded bits, and NEVER did them "gorilla tight". The S2 XJ12 took nearly all day to get that power steer adjuster undone, it was mutilated beyond belief. Now its a 1 hour job, tops. |
On my three Jags I've had to, in some cases, remove one end of the adjuster rod to allow the component to swing far enough to remove/install the belt. Once the belt is on the pulley the rod is reattached and adjusted.
But, yeah, if the adjuster rod threads are rusty, damaged, clogged with dirt, etc the job is torture. Cheers DD |
Wish I knew of a way to change them to a serpentine, I would do it in a skinny minute.

Have decided (at 75,000), that while I have it apart this far, will go ahead and renew the water pump and there are a few tiny leaks in the Power Steering system, so going to put new seals in pump, new high pressure and return lines. May as well do it while there is room to get my hands in there.

Happy THANKSGIVING!!
Aren't we a GREAT bunch of folks!!!!!!??

HELL YEH. Best bunch of folk on the WWW. HAHA.
We dont have Thanksgiving down here, but all the same ENJOY. |
then tomorrow you should eat too much, get a cold beer and watch a good Soccer/Rugby game. While doing so, reflect on all there is to be thankful for mate. Like: America isn't completely socialist yet :-). Want to travel to Australia before I am too old to surf. Great waves there.

i did all of mine at once and it is quite a pain. I've taken the fan and shroud off numerous times so its nothing new to me, but god what a pain....the thing is it takes 45minutes-1.5 hours and nearly the WHOLE time is loosening and tightening because every single tensioner only has enough space to turn the nuts on them a few degrees at a time. They just take FOREVER. If i didn't want ratcheting wrenches before then i do now.
