Blanking off inlet ports during maintenance (V12)
Hi all,
A seemingly trivial and simple question but somebody might have a smart idea ( do they call this stuff 'life hacks'?)
i have the inlet manifolds removed for maintenance and considerable cleaning in the valley between the heads of my V12.
The time honored solution is to stuff rags into the ports to prevent ingress of contamination into cylinders
Because the ports are vertical, I'm concerned that rags aren't ideal for this job and cleaning products etc will be able to find their way into the engine.
I am considering what might make a more effective plug. Perhaps squash ***** inserted into the ports might be suitable but to purchase 12 ***** for such a temporary requirement does seem a bit excessive.
Any thoughts or experiences appreciated

Take your old intake manifold gaskets and wrap 'em up in heavy tape then lightly cinch 'em down with the nuts. That'll keep most of the 'stuff' out.
Afterward, use some tape (or whatever your imagination conjures up) to affix some 5/16" fuel hose to the hose of your shop vacuum. You can get the hose right down into the inlet ports and spark plug holes to suck up any small debris that might've fallen in
