Built some car ramps...
 

Built some car ramps... still the rear part to go which will allow me to jack it up level.
400mm off the ground, seems so high on the ramps.
This has taken quite a few months to build so far, work provided a lot of the steel if you know what I mean.

First drive up was fun, wife did not trust me welding and was expecting it to fail, but NO.
After this post I will go underneath the car, so if you never hear from me again you know why!

Nice work. Just saw the comment re materials. Hope it was scraps!

Look nice, but I'd add a support immediately under where the rear wheels sit so that the weight goes straight down to the floor.

A bit of a shame you mentioned stealing the materials from your place of work, though. Theft is theft.

Borrowed is better, they know exactly where they are when, and if, they want them, HA.

Agree on supports, that sucker is heavy, and then add the odd stresses from you working on it under there, dropping will not be good.

I work for a manufacturing plant, whats left in the steel rack was ok to use, with permission, left over from jobs.
What they did not have I had to purchase.

Very pleased so far, I am more worried about the weight over the front wheels, looking to move the supports forward as I want to get the front wheel forward to the stops and i want the supports under the front wheels.
Not stressed about the rears, bugger all weight there and the ramps handle that fine.

Fantastic Job and looks Amazing!

You have now inspired me to get my own ramp working which has been on the back burner for too long!

Those supports will hold up the Queen Mary, Duke. You can roll the car forward to the stops no worries, as long as the rear wheels are on the ramp still. But if you are worried, then weld a couple of verticals in between the two stand horizontals - the horizontal right under the ramp deck and the one below it. Right now all the weight is going through the welds at each end of the top horizontal.
Terrific job though, and it will make a real difference to your ease and accuracy of working on the car.

As a mechanical engineer (but not a structural engineer). The photo's do make me nervous. The supports look fine - just the ramps themselves.

As long as the wheels are directly over the supports, obviously they work - would be interested in how much the ramp deflects when driving up - but that is just the engineer in me

Not Bad, should do fine, be careful, and try different positions, forward of the pivot and back etc. To see if it shows up any weak spots. and then start reinforcing the weak areas. After several tries you should have all the "kinks" worked out, and have a great drive on ramp system. Nice Job.

Well done with the crime prevention. Taking those materials home before someone steals them was very-thought full. Lol

Brinny - had to laugh.

Driven up and down quite a few times now.
Plan is to move the supports forward a bit so the car is forward to the stops but the stands are under the wheels.

The pivot bar - top horizontal bar is welded in 4 places as it goes through the vertical supports, so the weight is not on my welds but the vertical supports.
Over all I am pleased.

I am thinking the rear lift beam will be as close to the rear wheels as possible and will offer more support, depends how far the jack can go under the car.
