Default 'Cherry Blossom Update' I'm going to try and Start her up Today!

Hi Guys

Having taken a break from 'Cherry Blossom' while I've been getting an MOT on my Grey XJS.

After the recent mishap, which sounded like a dropped valve coupled to the fact She wouldn't Start.

I am going to take the 'Brave Pills' and try and Start her up again today, as I don't want to Tear the Engine down for nothing.

Maybe Water got in somewhere and caused the Engine to Misfire, or maybe it really was a 'Dropped Valve' or even a broken 'Chain Tensioner'

So I'm going to make a short Video of what actually happens (or not) as it happens. which I will put on my 'Cherry Blossom Restoration Thread'

And will put a Separate Microphone in the Engine Compartment, to pick up any Strange Noises, whatever they may be.

Take it easy. I've just taken the front cover off... Just so you can see yourself OB The tensioner can take a bit more. A few degrees backwards is okay. But not like a full turn or so. All plastic... Well, most of it!

This ones for YOU!

I want to do this Apprentice Style (TV Programme many of you will have heard of)

If 'Cherry Blossom' is Broken then it will be Curled up Sandwiches in some grotty Cafe.

But if She lives to fight another day, then it will be a slap up meal in one of my Favorite Restaurants, which I think you may recognize from the Photo I'll put up.

If we get to go there.

.

Did you ever take a good, long look to determine if something *external* was the cause of all the commotion and racket?

Cheers

Default Hi Guys here is the Video

Hi Guys

Here is the Video in fact I have done Two.

The First one is on Start Up where you can hear some strange noises, which I 'thought' sounded like a dropped Valve.

Then I turned the Engine off but when I started her again, there was no noise except a very feint tappity sort of sound.

The Chain Cover looked OK from what I could see and she had a very good Oil Pressure and plenty of 10/40 in the Sump.

Make of them what you will and let me know what you think.

OB, in both the noise seemed to be coming from the fan area, especially the first. It certainly doesn't sound goosed at any rate.

Sounds just like an engine which hasn't ran for a loooong time.

The first video at startup sounded like a spark plug wire arching to ground. You would be able to tell more so at night if someone can start it up for you and you look at the engine.

Hi Daim

Cheers! I don't think that I moved it much and stopped when I saw what was about to happen.

Did you take any Photos?

Hi Doug

I did have a good look round and nothing stood out as being out of kilter.
