Im hesitant to mess with it . Being one handed its difficult to access much less put back together. And as i sais it was working fine in that spliced configuration origanally. Im going to focus on seeing if my multimeter can get a response from the disconnected cps while turning over the engine. Then to see if i have a solid 12 v at the #7 fuse while turning over the engine. Ill report back today hopefully

Jeff,

A fluctuating 2v on a 200v scale may be difficult to pick up as Vee has mentioned. I would try and borrow a meter that has a lower AC scale than 200v.

Cheers

Paul

Out of curiousity, have you remove the dash panel with the gauges? My 94 had a no start problem, turned out one of the plugs on the back of the panel had popped out. Replaced it, and bingo, it started.

Looks like you're looking for an autoranging multimeter...shouldn't be hard to find one.

Default Have you checked the ignition amplifier?

what ive tried so far

1. new cps
2. new plugs
3. new battery as mine would go flat after a few days
4. sent out ecu and got confirmation its communicating
5. yesterday day i pulled coil and plug from cylinder 1 and 6 separately. Positioned plug and coil upside down n top of engine so i could see a spark from the plug as i cranked the engine. I saw nothing . So assume no spark
6. checked fuses and reseated ecu and ecm relays
my observations
1. tach jumps when cranking
2. I can hear fuel pump priming. I have a full tank of gas
3. given the no spark i have not check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Wonder if i should anyway
My suspicions
1 my security system has always been suspect. The car only came with one key no fob but locks both doors and trunk from drivers side lock. The red led by cig lighter sometimes illuminates . The key will chirp sometimes.. my convt top has never worked by the switch. I put it down manually . Quarter windows dont work. Ive notice in the wiring diagram it is somehow tied the the security system.
can i remove the security module from the trunk area to take that system and any starting issues it may cause out of the equation
Thanks,Jeff
Have you checked the GM ignition amplifier contained in a square flat box (about 4"x4"x1") atop the left side of the engine?

I was told that since I have a two wire coil that I do. Can you be more specific as to its location? Thanks

Atop the intake manifold on the left side of the engine near the middle, should be in plain view, a black box about 4x4x0.5 inches (but again, I'm not certain if your year uses an ignition amplifier)

It is a 1995 6 cylinder car, Wayne, not a Lucas V12.

Default no start

It happened to me and it turned out to be the coil. It produced spark but not strong enough to fire up the engine. Changed coils, problem gone.

Car is still at the Jaguar indie mechanic . Been there all winter I don’t think the got to it so I’m hoping after my last phone call they’ll get on it. Now my 96 x300 is experiencing the same issue. This is rediculous

Sorry to hear of your new problem, Jeff!

It's the same diagnostic issue - you either haven't got fuel coming out of the injectors, or you haven't got a spark at the electrodes. (Or stale fuel!)

Good luck

Paul

Mechanic thinks it might be a bad security module on the xjs. If I match the dpp1050/xx part number with a replacement do these still need to be programmed?

Jeff,

Seriously, just get the mechanic to do a proper diagnosis of the problem before you start buying or changing anything.

Cheers

Paul
