Convertible stainless windscreen trim
 

Has any removed the stainless trim from a pre facelift windscreen? If so can you tell me which parts come off first and give me some idea how to go about it. A search suggests pop rivets up the side trim but I only found five screws. . Has it been off before? After removing these screws it’s still very solid. I can also see screws along the top. Any help appreciated please remember it’s a convertible. Thanks

Having just looked at some parts photos it seems the top and bottom trims are removed first and this allows access to the side trim screws

As you've discovered, the lower screw attachment is revealed when you have removed the lower trim.

Be very careful both removing and refitting. It is really to distort the trims and then you'll never get them looking straight on refitting. Don't twist or use any excessive force to remove them.

It will be really interesting to hear what you find underneath them! For many owners, it's a real shock as it can expose the inevitable windscreen flange corrosion.

Thanks for your input. I successfully if that’s the right word removed them all yesterday in about an hour. Not sure if they had been off before or not but behind them was a lot of dead insects and the inevitable corrosion. Overall I was quite happy with things. No rot on the drivers side pillar but some on the passenger side. Also some light corrosion on the top cross beam but not something that worries me. I am more concerned about the change in design of the finishing rubber. Jaguar changed the design at some point and I’m not sure how the new one fits compared. If you’ve experience of this I would like to hear about it.

Quick update. I had the screen removed today and the window guy told me I can replace all the trim without the screen in. He will refit it after which gives me plenty of room to get the stainless surround back in correctly.

Sounds like it was worth doing, especially if you are removing the windscreen.

I would like to remove mine to check for rust, but would you do just to check?
Or better to leave it alone?

I wanted my trim off initially for my respray. I had no real signs of any problems. Once off some corrosion became evident. It will now be attended too and care taken to maximise protection for the future I.e. cavity wax into the pillars etc. If you think you have a problem then it’s not too hard to remove the trims if you take your time and are carefull. This is an 89 convertible I am referring too.
