Are Diff. Speed Sensor Interchangeable
I broke the cable to the differential speed sensor right at the sensor, leaving no wires to splice onto when I lowered the IRS cage. Is there a different speed sensor that can be used in lieu of the original part number DBC11115 and now DBC 2632 that will work? If you can find an original sensor used, they are selling for around $400. I just ordered a 1992 sensor for my 19891/2 with the same single center sensor pin extending out of the housing with the same mounting bracket except it has three wire instead of the two wires on the 1989 DBC 2632 for about half the price. I am going to test the part number 11116 to see if it has the same resistance and pickup point. Has anyone had luck using a different sensor than the original one?

2 Attachment(s)
I received the speed sensor for the 1992-1996 XJS part number DBC11116 for $150.00. This will fit my 1989 sensor number DBC2632 (DBC11115) that are selling for around $450.00. See attached picture of the two sensors. The black sensor with no wires is the original DBC2632.

Patrick,
I can't speak for the compatibility of the sensors. But after my cage was dropped and refitted, I found the sensor was incredibly sensitive to being shimmed with the correct number of really thin nylon spacer gaskets. One tiny thin gasket made the difference between my speedo fluttering and being stable. Cheers Paul |
Paul,
I saved the four original verry thin nylon shims and will start with the original size and quantity of shims with the new installation. The connector is the same on the 1989 DBC11115 and the 1992-1996. DBC11116. So far this option is alot cheeper and looks identical. |
