evertime i do something to benefit something happens
Had oil changed yesterday, top of the line new oil filter, new air filter.
now when i crank the car the oil pressure shoots strait to the halfway mark. maybe this is normal i dont know. before the change it sat at the bottom and rose as i drove the car. |
@Qgregg
Are you getting the oil pressure at half way when you are cranking ? (or after it's started?) I've had my oil changed a few times and it's never done anything to change the behaviour of the oil pressure gauge..... Mine will go to about half way once the car is started from cold. When driving (still cold) it goes to 3/4. Once it's warmed up it sits around half way when driving, and can come all the way down to almost 0 when hot idling (but the idiot light never comes on) This correlates nicely with my oil temperature (I have an aftermarket gauge with the sender braised into the sump), ie when the oil is cold the pressure is high, when it's hot the pressure is lower. |
cold cranking going strait to middle, after i drive a little it drops to zero then increases as i accellerate.

I've never watched my oil pressure gauge while I'm cranking (and the car is currently in the shop with the transmission out so I can't check). Maybe others can chime in if they have cars that are actually running and they can go check.
My first thought would be that I wouldn't trust any gauges while cranking the starter as the voltage could be fluctuating quite a bit, but maybe thats wrong. |
yea it seems like before the oil change it stayed low and as i speed up it increased, if it went half way i was haulin ass, but like i say now it jumps on up to half way and thats idling @ 1000 rpm's(a little high i know) in park.

quite screwing with that whack ass electrical gauge and get a proper mechanical gauge and some copper tubing.

I hear ya, sounds like a good idea. Kiils me when i cant fix something...
