Fuel pump change

So I smelled gas yesterday in my 1990 XJS V12 Convertible... fuel pump has a drip about every 15 seconds. Says I have to depressurize the fuel system. I found instructions but says unhook terminal 85 from pump relay. Which one is terminal 85?????

Thanks

Dont worry about that.

The dripping will take care of it in about 15 minutes.

I simply pull the pump relay, the one in the Black socket, and start the engine, and let it die, pressure now gone. Dont forget to REFIT that relay.

Biggest issue will be rush of fuel when the gravity hoses are removed, so either clamp the BIG one from the sump tank to the pump, or drain all the fuel first, via the drain spigot in that same sump tank. I drain ALL the fuel, clamping hoses tight enopugh to stop fuel seepage usually damages the inner liner, not good, double job coming up. Cleaning that sump tank is also a good idea when a new pump is fitted.

THEN

Remove all the carpets etc from the boot, as fuel spillage is going to happen, after that wash the boot out with hot soapy water, and leave the car in the sun with the boot open, to dry, or fuel smell will be your NEW best buddy.

We call this drying time, "Beer O'Clock".
