Gluing bonnet hood lining... before its totalled
What is a good way to glue down the bonnet lining while it still is ok?
It is in good nick but separating in places, so before it is gone to far what is recommended to fix it? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...8b6b7c904b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...ffe9497918.jpg I'm thinking... NOT Guerrilla glue, NOT silicon, NOT pva, staple gun...cable ties, insulation tape, super glue. BUT ados contact glue? So what? |

3M #80. Personally, I’d ditch that lining and go with a closed cell nitrile vinyl....at least 1/4” thick. Maybe 3/8? The 3M will hood that too. Buy a sheet from eBay. A 3’-0” piece should be more than enough. Trim it down to roughly the same shape as the old liner, spray some of that 3M spray adhesive on, and mount! Its that simple. It’ll look neater and probably a hell of a lot cleaner! You’ll have some people that will tell you it’s not necessary at all. I have no idea whether it’s there for anything other than sound deadening. It’s certainly not for fire and others will confirm it’s not to protect paint. |
Away with it!! That was my solution. Not an XJS, but a XJ wuzza six. Looked like a moth eaten old bear rug. distracting from an otherwise decent engine bay!!
Done a decade or so ago. No noted ill effects!!! I had a plan B. Mask and drape. Spray with truck bed liner. Can on the shelf! Project never made it to the top of the list. Carl |
