Help! Is this a Bosch alternator?

Apparently I fried my alternator getting it wet!
I'm not sure if this is an original Bosch or a replacement with new brackets. If anyone recognizes this alternator or has pics of their original Bosch. Please post up! Thanks! |

That's not an original... Original Boschs have the ribbed belt (visible area on the crank pulley). It was removed from a 1990 XJ-S V12... My 1989 is the same.

Not sure up there, but down here that is a "normal" early GM/Ford alternator.
Also commonly known as a "universal fit". We use that single top mount style on cars when replacing generators. The bracket/s are easy to fabricate for that style mount. That bracketry is NOT Jaguar. I'm wondering where the A/C adjuster pulley is relocated to, or is the A/C removed. |
The AC is still in place, somewhat.
And it was working fairly well until this alternator business. The AC compressor and the alternator are being driven off the sane belt. There is no adjuster pulley in the setup currently. |

Dont like that, as I reckon tooooo much load on the alternator bearings to successfully drive a compressor, BUT, that is my opinion. |
Yes, well in practice I'd have to agree. The belt often squeals when the compressor clutch is engaged and I need some acceleration.
Not sure how to convert it back, or what to convert it to. |
The original set up had the alternator down below, same side, and driven off the rear most "V" of the crank pulley pack, and used an "11" section (narrow) V belt.
The A/C originally had an air pump as the tensioner and ran a "13" section (wide) belt. The air pump was replaced with an idler pulley on a cast alloy bracket at various times, and markets. Yours has the "11" section belt on the alternator, that I can see, and probably the original "13" section pulleys on the compressor and crankshaft, soooooo, that belt will "bottom out" in those 2 pulleys and slip, no matter how tight you make it. To bring it back to "as made" will be fiddly, and time consuming, and finding the bits to do so would be testy in some markets, but well worth it in my opinion. Changing that "V" pulley on that, or replacement, alternator to a "13" section "V" would be simpler, and then the correct section "13" belt could be used. |
