How many KM's left in this do you think?
Had a good look around with a torch the other day and hello...... look what I found.

Planning to replace all the hoses in winter, but want to use the car for another 1-2 months. Would you risk it? Obviously it needs to be replaced, what options? OEM or after market? But now or after a couple more Sunday drives............ CBC4838 $40 pounds ($92 NZD) OEM for one hose? Or URO $14 NZD Or hose kit HK029 $79 pounds ($167) All plus freight. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...f3b09892ef.png |
I wouldn't drive 5 miles with that hose, personally.
I have mixed feelings about URO parts but, in fairness, I've never had any of their hoses fail....so you might as well save the money. Cheers DD |
Hi Duke
That looks near enough a Straight piece of Hose so seeing as that would cost you no more than a couple of dollars, I think I would offer it up and see how it looked And even if that did not work out, you could always carry the straight piece of hose in the Boot/Trunk to use for an emergency repair Lets see what Greg and Grant have to say But if I remember that far back, I think that I used a Straight piece of Hose on my own Car which over time and due to the Hot Water flowing through it, got itself moulded into shape so even now I cannot tell the difference As long as it doesn't have any kinks, then I can't see a problem Though maybe others can? |
I would buy the kit and change the lot. Now.
|
Greg is right. Dont do what I do and change them as needed because as needed quicky escalates to a towtruck bill 300km from home.
I find if one has failed the next is 2-3 weeks later and so on. Do it all properly, would be a good time to get the rad professionally flushed to. Shop-Vac the inlets yourself if your inclined to do so. |
Agreed all round.
The top hoses are the "easy" ones, so probably changed prior to you getting the car. The "harder" hoses will maybe be Original, and if one blows, the coolant will leave the system before the temp sensor even moves the gauge. AND Dont forget the Top Hat seals on the coolant pipes on top of each cylinder head. Over heat a V12 = new Mortgage in your future. |
I’ll offer a conrtrary opinion just to balance out the responses. You’re about to win a free engine bay steam clean! |
How many KM's is it from where the car is now to your shed?
|
Mac - The funny thing its in my shed.
Was planning to do the hoses in winter once weather turn to crap, might just do the top now and in a month or two all of them. Want to drive it a few more times before pulling the radiator and doing hoses, spark plugs and leads. The White Walkers are coming! Winter will be here soon..... |
Just undo the jubilee clip, pull the hose a bit further, even half a cm will do and tighten it up before the crack, you can even use a 2nd jubilee clip if you worried and keep this one to hold everything in place.
Job done and it will last until you get all replaced, no need to panic. You do want to address it though, better now then on the side of the road :) |
