How much power should the ABS solenoids require?

Hey guys,

Does anyone here know how much power/current the Teves ABS solenoids require to properly operate? I can't see it needing like loads of amps and the full 12V. Probably only less required. Probably like 6V (4x AA battery) and that would be enough to test the function... Or am I thinking a little on the loose side?

Cheers

Damien

I would think 9v might operate them with no load, 6v might not be enough. What is the resistance of the solenoid?

Got to measure that yet.

I'll get back to you on that one...

They vary between 6 and 9 ohm. I was surprised as I found continuity between all of them... But then again, they don't all activate a once... Am I thinking that somewhere aroud 6V (4 AA) might just be enough? Or should I be looking at a little block battery? I want to be able to check them and keep them open/closed for a second or two without worrying about burning their coils...

That's why I asked for the resistance, 6 volts and 6ohms is 1amp, which should be ok, just check coil temperature and make sure they don't get hot.

Okay... So that should be fine for a few little checks. Would 6V be enough to operate or should I even be able to go to say 3V (2x AA)?

Give it a try 500ma might be enough, it depends on how much mechanical load there is on the solenoid.
