Ignition coils

I've been trying to sort out replacement parts, cross-referencing all I can to make sure I've got plenty of options in the event that something goes kaput and I need to scramble to get a working part. I know the two-coil Lucas system was eventually abandoned for a single coil system (the DAC6093 or equivalent Bosch or Ducelier unit, correct?) but I also read (in my search here - I did use the search function) that there's no benefit to go from the double coil system to the single coil system or vice versa.

I've heard the coils in the dual-coil system described as "universal" and that the older units were oil-filled whereas the newer units were not, and through my furious clicking through the internet, I discovered the Wells C877 and (from another user on this site, actually) the Fuelmiser CC215 - although I can't say I've ever seen that brand in the states.

Now, in my increasingly frenzied clicking, I stumbled upon a couple coils that were statistically similar to the Wells C877 and Fuelmiser CC215, most notably this offering from MSD and this similar ACCEL unit.

I know these brands are higher profile than the Wells or Fuelmiser names (read = more likely to be in stock) but if pressed (and I accept that I'm paying a 100% markup for a name) will they work, or am I just courting disaster?

Over the years many having reported using [insert name here] coils with good results. As long as the specs are close, as you mention, I don't see a problem, personally.

Others will chime in, and there's probably good discussion in Kirby's book as well

FWIW I went with the Ducellier DAC6093 as it was a known commodity.

Cheers
DD
