ive been lurking here and reading all the Sticky threads on the XJS in the last few weeks since I dragged my 1989 home. Thanks to you all past and present for all the great info. I’m going to need all the help I can get.

I have two other full restorations in my shop right now, but hope to get to work on this XJS.early next year. In the meantime I am working on
the brakes un-frozen so I can move the car around with less trouble. Front calipers are off to White Post for re-sleeping, and I’ll pull out the rear suspension to get to the back brakes. Still need to do some reading on what else I should do to the IRS/ diff while I have it out. The thread from OB was very helpful. Wheels are off for straightening and some welding, Missing a couple of the 168 mm center caps though,
Luckly I have a good support group of XJS owners and shops here in San Antonio. Otherwise I would have passed on this “free” car.

That wing can be yours for the cost of shipping! It is an aftermarket wing, and fatter than the later model wings.

It's maybe a little late if you've already removed the front calipers but don't push back the pads when removing the rear ones, or when reinstalling the front calipers without undoing the caliper bleed nipples first to allow the fluid to escape that way. You mustn't push any fluid back up the pipes to the ABS valve block on these Teves ABS cars. The movement of sediment can have disastrous consequences in jamming the valves.

Also, when you come to flush and replace the brake fluid (which you will!) read up and ensure you know how to bleed the Teves ABS system. Or else post back here nearer the time.

Thank you for your kind advice on the brake calipers. No worries there as those caliper pistons are not going anywhere. I did manage to wedge the calipers off the front rotors but really can’t get to the back ones so will be removing / refitting the rear end sooner than I planned. Due to seized calipers the car would only roll with a lot of force.
I was working on draining the Teves reservoir. Doesn’t really drain well at either end of the low pressure line and all the lines will need flushing out, so I assume I am going to have to pull out the whole brake pedal housing and actuator assembly.

Front calipers were frozen so badly I could not refurb them myself, so I sent them off to be resleeved/refurbed.
