Default Fuel lines/Pressure reg

This week im going to start replacing my fuel lines into the engine bay.
Now i have read things and from "the book" the the inlet Fuel pressure regulator on the right , i could just remove or just bypass it.
Is it really needed?

I removed mine some 15 years ago, and as Doug said, NO ill effects.

I also moved the fuel filter to the engine bay at the same time. It fits nicely on the chassis rail just outside the reach of the idler pulley for the air con, or air pump if your market has that item. One less fuel smell in the boot.
