I have a 1984 XJS and i'm baffled, as i can't seem to find the filler cap for power steering. I've two neighbours point at different filler caps. I have added photos, so if anyone can orientate me, that would be great. Thanks.

Below the silver label reading “for lubrication and information...”

a black round cap on a black coffee can sized unit attached to the block. This unit has a belt running to its front.

Hi
Thank you, the large silver cap directly below the sticker? I want to make sure i get this right before tipping in a whole bottle. Thanks

The silver cap in the second pic is coolant expansion tank. Don’t put it in there. The PS cap has a three inch post sticking out it’s bottom for measuring the fluid level, as well as fluid specifications on its top.

I believe you have a right hand drive jag right? You may need to flop my directions. Same place opposite side if you do. Mines a US lefty.

Never seen a silver cap.

The Saginaw pump has a plastic (black) cap with an integral dipstick. Maybe you got the "special" edition. Just kidding.

It is easier, haha, to remove that air cleaner cover, which includes that trumpet, then "feel" under the radiator hose, and there it be. FIDDLY is a polite word for acces. and a COLD engine is mandatory.

DO NOT overfill that thing, or you will have fluid in very odd places.

Have a beer or 3 afterwards, you will have earned them, trust us all on that one.

Hi
It is a RH drive model, but can't see a coffee can sized unit near the sticker as aforementioned.....does anyone have photos on their car, ideally a RH drive? Thanks

Pump on the LH side for all the V12 5.3 that I have seen.

Does anyone have a photo of the power steering filler cap, i can then try and spot it, as i'm not techy minded at all, sorry folks. haha

Here is mine RHD, and the cap for the steer fluid is UNDER the hose that I have circled.

It is not going to jump out at you, you have to go looking for it, and you will get used to that over the years.

Ah, there's the little fella. Me thinks a slim funnel then. Thanks guys that's really helped.

JigJag 04-21-2019 07:25 AM

I like to poke a hole in the foil under the bottle cap, put my finger on it to close it, maneuver the bottle down to the pump and then release my finger plug. Finger plug it and work it out. Check level and repeat.

I never get it right with a funnel. And too much is no good here. Removing some is even more fun!

My coolant hose is obstructing access more than what JigJag's picture indicates. I cannot get the filler cap of without pushing the hose out of the way.
I use a funnel with a 10" length of hose on it, and that works fairly OK. I only make a small mess when filling, and after changing my sealings I don't expect to have to do it every 300 miles anymore...
Here shown before I fitted the coolant expansion tank again. LH air box cover is also removed.

For the 4.0 boys...why is the PS filler cap righty to loosen? odd.
