Missing or damaged data plate

Long story made longer:
I call it a “hobby”, my wife leans more toward a “behavioral disorder”, but I tend to find “rescues” that have been neglected so I can bring them back to some state of their prior glory. 18 months or so ago I purchased a 1995 XJS V12 Convertible from an estate sale. It came to me from South Carolina by way of New York and clearly had been well cared for at one time, but left stored and unused for many years. I went through my usual procedures: safety items 1st, brakes, fuel lines, tires, suspension, then proceed with changing all fluids, assess what else needs to be replaced, etc… cosmetic things last. I’m now about ready to list it for the next owner and move onto the next problem but there is one thing I’d like to clean up. When I went to register the car in California (possibly the toughest state in the Union to deal with) I found that the data plate on the drivers side door had basically been wiped clean. I wasn’t too worried, all other documentation and numbers on the car matched and looked kosher. I had to go through a VIN verification process with a special CHP VIN officer. He did his investigation and I received to go-ahead to get it registered. I’d like to get a replacement data plate from Jaguar to make it easier for the next owner. I understand that some manufacturers will issue these and others won’t. I reached out to Jaguar Corporate a while back, but no response. Have any of you folks had experience replacing the factory data door sticker? I can’t believe it’s unheard of, it seems like there are other events like collisions which would require door and data plate replacement.
Thanks in advance,
Bruce

Bruce,

If you can't get a response from Jaguar Heritage (don't go to the main Jaguar division, you need to go to Jaguar Heritage), then maybe try one of the aftermarket sticker / decal companies. See here for an example:

XJS US Vehicle Information Number (VIN) | Jag Stickers

Good luck

Paul

Thank you Paul! I hadn’t thought of trying Jaguar Heritage.
Cheers - I owe you a beer.

I've used the jagstickers.com website, and he does a great job. Can't tell from factory. All info is printed on it, correct font, looks identical. He includes the stickers for the fenders and doors also, required on new cars for the USA.

A competent sign writer or digital printer should be able to help.
I reproduced mine some years back after full rebuild.
