Need help with trunk fastening clips and other items.

Gents, I am trying to fix up and clean up my trunk, I am steaming it and shampooing it and restoring it, but sadly some strange clips are broken and other parts are missing. I hate filthy trunks.

First there are some strange clips on the very back panel that cover the fuel tank and goes behind the spare wheel. I am not even sure what they grab on to ......These have all broken and the piece just floats. It’s these:

Second, is the spare wheel tie down. At some point, we entirely lost the tie down and the spare has just been laying there. I believe this happened after the car was completely stripped and repainted. I don’t even see a place in the wall to screw a tie down rod to....any help with a aftermarket suggestion appreciated. The tie down kits I have seen out there seem too big to fit.

Thanks for any help.

spikepaga,

I can't remember the year of your car. But if you've got a 93-on car with spacesaver spare wheel, you can just buy the long retainer bolt from Jaguar.

Cheers

I own a 93 XJS coupe. In the trunk (boot) the back panel had warped. I cut out a new one. Glued the cloth. Went to mount it. There were no clips. No holes to secure it. Here was my solution > take a round black foam strip that is used to weatherproof a "porch/screen" door. This strip is cut with a small adhesive strip on each side of the cut. Using this foam piece, I cut it to length to fit the panel between the boot lid cover hinges. . Then doing the same for the outer edges to each side of the hinges. The foam glue adhered to the panel. The foam strip hid the gap. It assisted in sealing the trunk lid along the back. Worked like a charm..

Hi Paul, the car is a 95 but a full size spare was requested by my grandfather on delivery. I would personally prefer the space saver because the size of the trunk is so small.

I don't know but I wonder if the bolt also fits a full-size spare? It wouldn't surprise me if Jaguar tried to use one single part for both wheel sizes. Could you find a late facelift XJS and see if they have spacesaver type bolt?

Paul

PS If you were in the UK. I'd swap my spacesaver and carpet cover for your full-size and carpet cover as I'd like to go the opposite route!

On my 95, the wheel cover fits over a full size spare. When I bought my car, I had found that the hold down rod had broken off at the hook which fits in a slot through a hole in the liner in front of the tank. The rod was laying in the trunk without the anchor hook. The hook had broken off and is still behind the tank wall.
Below is a pic of what the rod is supposed to look like with hook. I put a snip pf a hook from another similar rod for an earlier year car. The rods are the same but the handles are different. The 95 and maybe 96 simply has a hex handle with internal threads to screw down through one of the wheel lug holes. Then the cover is put on over the wheel/tire.

Hold down for earlier car. Note different type handle.

Hey everyone, trunk is looking pretty clean and I have a good tool bag and some missing clips on the way from a friend and some new turnbuckle clips from Terry’s Jag......everything has been steamed and shampooed.......I even got a little XJS specific carpet mat to be able to throw jacket and sports coats back there as necessary. It’s looking great. Only thing I need to be done back there is sourcing a new-old-stock power antenna. I replaced mine with a Harada MX-22 a while back and it always tilts unevenly and stays up anytime the car is on instead of retracting with the radio as originally intended.... I want to go back to the original set-up-but that’s another topic

Question : can anybody tell me where the toolbag goes? My ragged old tool bag was literally sitting in a corner with the jack inside. Is this correct? Once the new tool bag comes in, I would like to find the correct place for it.

Thanks
