I'm gutted. Hit a deer on the way home. Need a new bonnet/hood.

Any advice as to where to look?

I'm in northern California. 1988 V12

Thanks,

Bummer!!!

Sounds like things could have been worse.

You might try

Elite Auto Parts in L.A. area 818-516-2413 They also have a website. I believe they're Jag only dismantlers.

Definitely. Thankfully the car is a tank and the aerodynamic properties work on mammals as well as air so instead of coming up and through the windshield, it flipped over the car.

I'll take the car in to see if there's other, not so obvious damage.

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions, everyone.

Heartbreaking, Steve.

I also know a guy who hit and killed a moose while riding a scooter. We heard about it one the radio and hours later he arrived home, still on the scooter and with a story to tell. Must have hit the moose square in the *******.

The insurance company eventually coughed up (£3500) after my local jag garage persuaded them that it wasn't a clunker. They would however have written it off if the bonnet (hood) securing lugs didn't line up with the catches as that would have meant structural damage.
Everything forward of the radiator (oil cooler, condensor, grille etc) was knackered as was the bonnet.
The ABS worked a treat and I swerved around the first deer only to hit the second one straight up the **** and over the side of the roof. Poor blighter.
Good shot though as I didn't break a single headlight.
The deer was in the back of a plumbers van before the breakdown truck arrived!

Glad you're Ok Rhett.

Around our way there is a guy in Campbell that has a few XJSes breaking for parts.

Then there is Jaguar Heaven in the Stockon area

Then craigslist of course......

Thanks Scott. I'm still a bit freaked out but that seems to be the extent of it for me. Next time you're enjoying those west Marin back roads though, keep an eye on the surrounding brush!

I spoke to the owner of a local body shop known for doing meticulous work on collectable and/or older cars and he's going to see about getting me a new bonnet and grille. And the insurance company has already met with him, agreed to his pricing and sent him a check so it's just down to his being able to find the parts. I will probably call Jaguar Heaven if he runs into difficulty but I suspect he'll go to them first.

So far, it's looking like this might just be less difficult and stressful than I first imagined.

Thanks for all the info and feedback.
