Default Need Wheel ID

Who can tell me what these Jag wheels are? Will they fit the XJS? What center cap do they need?

Thanks!

I think those are early-ish XJ40 wheels. I've seen 'em on Ser III sedans so they should work on an XJS as well....but beware of possible interference betwwen the center cap and the wheel bearing dust cap. Wheel spacers might be needed

XJ40 and XJS front wheel offset is different if they are XJ40 you will need to space the fronts out.

I have XJ40 BBS 16x8 ET33 on my XJS and I needed to add 13mm spacers to the front. Rears fit no problem.

Wheels of this design were fitted to Series III XJ saloons as well, but not to XJSs as OEM. If they are 15 inch rims, be careful before changing to them, as 15 inch tyres of the correct ratings are hard to find and usually expensive. A 16 inch rim is a better choice from the tyre availability point of view.

The second point to watch is, if these are indeed from an XJ40 version of the XJ saloon, then many of them, if not all, had metric rims and can only take metric sized tyres, which are very rare and hard to find and always very expensive.

I suspect you're thinking of the Pepperpot style!

These wheels are "Teardrop" Alloys.

As Greg has mentioned, they were made in both metric & imperial sizes. My suggestion is definitely avoid them if they are metric as you will pay through the nose for the tyres. You should be able to identify if they are metric because they will be marked "390x80" as part of the markings on that flat section where the stud holes are.

I agree, and it's worth cheking....but I'm fairly sure none of the metric versions ever made it to the USA...at least not while still installed on a Jaguar. Some loose wheels may have migrated over somehow, though.
