Odometer Quit

My odometer quit on the drive home from work today trying to turn from 80399 to 80400. The trip odometer quit as well.

What's the best method for accessing the back of the instrument cluster so I can repair the drive gear?

Cheers,

From memory....will cover the basics at least.

Inside the cowling, at the edge of the cluster lens, are two trim strips with a center joiner. Remove the screws and the trim strips

At the top of the cluster, at each corner, are two "blanking covers". Remove the covers to expose two cluster retaining screws. Remove the screws

The cluster can now be tilted and pulled away from the dash GENTLY far enough to disengage the two harness connectors at the back. Small hands help here.

With the wires disconnected you can pull the cluster away from the dashboard.

Lowering the steering 1/2" or so column will help. Loosen but don't remove the steering column nuts behind the under-dash trim panel

The printed circuit at the back of the cluster is delicate so be careful not to tear it

With the cluster removed you can disassemble it, remove the speedometer, and (hopefully) repair the odometers

This is a good time to clean all contacts, replace bulbs, and add a redundant cluster ground

Cheers
