Windshield Wiper Motor Interchange...?

Windshield Wiper Motor Interchange...?
My 1987 XJS is all but a windshield wiper motor away from passing inspection... BUT, the only things I can find out about them is ...
1) They are notoriously horrible pre-1988.
2) New wiper motors are $800...
3) Refurbished motors are $300...
4) From my knowledge, they aren't interchangeable with any other motor.
5) My motor is destroyed beyond repair. No chance of being fixed.
SO...
Is their ANYTHING I can do to possibly get a new motor for somewhere in the $100 range? Any motors that are interchangeable? Any motors that can be rigged to be interchangeable? And any way if I do buy a refurbished $300 one that I can make sure it never breaks again?
Thanks in advance.

Hey, I JUST went through this myself! Here's what I did:
I had a 87 XJ6 parts car. The wiper is different, BUT the brushes and casing are the same! I took a wire brush to the original armature and cleaned it up real good, then used a knife to clean out the spaces between the contacts that the brushes rub against. Then I removed the waferboard that holds the brushes and the casing from the XJ6 and installed it onto the XJS...it worked perfectly!
There are a lot of junked XJ6's around, you should be able to find one somewhere!
