There is as we do not have the emission laws, cars are not tested for emissions.
So a car without all the crap would be very desirable.. if I was to buy from Japan that car I did not buy still looks a good buy with all the work done to it. The Japan cars are similar price and then I would have to pay / do all the work. The green car had mounts / brakes / tyres / battery / fluids .... quite a long list.

Last NZ car went for 12k NZ - as long as its OK I will have some $$ to spend on it.

Can’t you fix the air con yourself? You said you wanted something to do?

Haaa very true.... had to laugh but if I have to fix stuff then I want a cheaper car....not pay heaps to fix an expensive one, after all the aircon can be $$$$
This is the most expensive XJS in NZ...so common sense say to get one cheaper then fix that!

Huh. I did not imagine there were no actual emissions tests, but I've checked, and the AA says nope, not worth it. Just no smoke allowed.
However, you can't assume that all cars need the same degree of work done. From what I gather, these auction buyer places give a fairly thorough report. However, if you'd prefer to wait for one to show up in NZ for a cheaper price, I wonder if it would make sense to contact or join a Jaguar club and see if any members are selling.

Sight unseen? I imagine the price difference was substantial in that case....
