Q about clearing evap drains
I do have wet carpets and the first time I tried to use the defrosters on my new-to-me '85 V12 coupe the windshield fogged up so bad I couldn't see at all. So, I decided to clear out my evaporator drains.
I found them tucked up by the tranny (took some looking). I shoved some 12ga wire up there until it stopped going, however the wire is fairly soft and bent easily so I'm not sure it's going up all the way. I did drag out a bunch of crusty stuff but no water ever came out. I'm really not sure the wire went in far enough. I'd like to mark the wire with a piece of tape so I know if it actually went all the way in. Can anyone tell me about how deep it should go before it hits the coil? D |
I'm guessing six inches ?
If you're gentle you won't hurt the core even if you come in contact with it. I bend a tiny hook at the end of the wire to help grab any muck Cheers DD |
I probably had it that far in. Must not be any water in there. I'll need to run the AC I guess and see if anything drains - I'd been avoiding it other than an ops check.

I pull the drain tubes and blow air up into the case, and down through the tubes. this normally clears them out well and drainage resumes:)
