Default Question on February 1976 Production Change

Does anyone know what the following February 1976 production change means in plain English? I stared at a dozen boot pictures and can't figure out what changed. This is from Paul Skilleter's book.

I think it means the typeface used on the letters XJS was changed somewhat.

Now I have to go out in my outbuilding, bring a flashlight and compare.
