Default Rear axel seal, oil leakage xjs 1977

Hi!

I have a 1977 jaguar xjs rear axel, originaly combined with a 5343cm3 V12 (200kw?). Attached is a picture from recent assembely.

I need a seal due to oil leakage from the input to the differential.
No parts-dealers seams to be abel to help and wants messurement of the flange? I have been informed that "Jaguar Parts Catalogue doesn't list the size of the flange or seal"

Unfortunatly i can not lift the car at this moment.

I am a novice but i will fix this my self as this is part of the fun.
(please take notice of the word novice when explaining)

Any thougts?

Regards
xjs77

I'm not an expert on earlier XJSs but it it seems that part number CBC6923 (pinion seal) would work. Try Googling the part number.

Do you have a worshop manual for the car? Replacing the pinion seal can be difficult. The 'preload' for nut must be carefully measured before removal and again on reassembly, or the position of the nut must be *exactly* marked and the nut tightened to *exactly* the same position. A slight error here can easily cause a bearing failure within a few thousnad miles....or even sooner in some cases.

Cheers
DD
