Rear Bumper Cover Won't Stay in Place
1 Attachment(s)
My 1996 XJS rear bumper cover does not remain secured to the underside of the car. I've attached a photo of a bumper cover from an Ebay auction, which shows the three small key/oval-shaped areas on the cover, but I haven't a clue as to their function. On my bumper cover I have about 4 clips that seem to have nothing to do with the "cutouts", which serve to tenuously attach the bumper cover to a ridge on the underside of the body. However, these are not effective in that they neither hold for very long, nor do they provide anything close to a secure attachment.
I expect that I am missing some other attachment bits and, in particular, missing something that gives function to the cutouts. Any help would be very much appreciated. |
wsamoska,
As you've seen, the crimped metal clips lose their tension after a while and the bumper cover edge can slip out from them. I've found that the easiest thing is to use some small self-tappers on that leading edge and screw the plastic cover into place. Cheers Paul |
Thanks Paul, good advice. I'll do as you suggest.
