Removal of door locks on face lift XJS

If they are like the pre facelifts, there is a bracket across the back of the handle, inside the door, across the handle top to bottom holding the handle to the doorskin. This bracket has a small nut in its centre which is screwed to a stud on the handle inside face. This must be loosened which is not easy. Once done the bracket can be turned horizontal and the handle withdrawn to the outside.

I think the handle may be more like the XJ6/XJ12 on the facelift cars. That being said, even those come apart pretty much the same way.
There is a bracket that sits against the door that pulls the handle in, probably has 2 nuts/screws holding it on. If you remove this the handle will come out so long as the linkage is removed.
Generally the easiest way to remove the linkage is pushing against the outside of the tabs with the wide end of a flat blade screwdriver.
Getting the handle itself undone may require you reaching in from the bottom and across or using some combination of extensions. I believe on both the XJ6 and XJS I had to reach up from the bottom opening and use a simple combination wrench.
The lock mechanism should have a few large phillips head screws and then it'll just fall out. You can dicker with this mechanism or the linkage to "remove" the locking function if that is what you are truly after, as your post implies.
