Removing fuel pump 1996 XJS 2+2
As some of you may already know I will be 74 this year and still like To wrench on my cars, especially the CAT!!!, Nobody touches my CAT. The car has just reached 100K over this past year and at some point a new fuel pump will be needed. Don’t know if I’m up to pulling it out the normal way, through the trunk. At some point when required I am thinking of going through the back deck lid behind the rear seat. Cut a section out and just retrieve up and out. Unless there is something I have missed this should be the easiest. I wont have to drain the tank and remove a bunch of hoses possibly causing even more damage. please respond and pass on your thoughts or opinion. Thanks Softball60/Paul |

To quote that well worn saying 'It may never happen' but if it does then I wouldn't go cutting holes in the Car, as I contemplated doing this when my Fuel Pump went wrong on my 1995 4.0L Convertible The hardest or should I say awkward part, is taking off the Fuel Pipes from underneath the Car and then once having done that, its just a matter of removing everything in the Boot/Trunk as everything in the Boot/Trunk is going to get in the way Its a total PIA job and so you've got to hang in there and grind it out until the job is done If you've got $500 burning a hole in your pocket, then this could just be one of those jobs that is best left to a 'Shop' providing you supply them with the Fuel Pump for which they may decide to charge you upwards of $100+ just for the Pump I got one off Amazon for about £15 which was easy to fit and is still going strong Cutting holes in your XJS could damage your Car and maybe even invalidate your Insurance |
