Replacement Jack
 

Hello Gents

I want to replace the jack and lug nut remover tool in my car, since the originals are just in bad shape although never used, they have some rust in parts and look old......I do like to keep everything original, but I don’t want to have to pay 60 plus for a used jack that is probably in similar condition. This 15 dollar jack looks identical to me:

Ideally I would like the most compact jack and lug nut remover i can fit in my new tool bag. Another option is getting one from another Jaguar, but again I would be paying just to have something with a label.

These will probably not need to be used as I carry roadside assistance, so there is that

What have other members replaced their toolbag tools with?

I carry one of these:
It is telescopic so plenty of leverage. A 23mm size is ideal, even though the nuts are nominally 22mm, 23mm seems to fit mine far better.

That is EXACTLY what I bought for my 96. It's a way better product than what came with the car.

I also bought this jack when the original one began to fail:


I know youre a stickler for OEM, but the jack fits in the same spot as it did before. I even put it in the same sleeve/bag.

If you buy a replacement scissor jack, such as illustrated above, be sure to drill a hole in the saddle, so it can positively locate into the peg on the jacking point on the car. The OEM scissor jack has this hole, and that helps make jacking the car up a bit safer as it helps prevent the jack slipping off the car.

Its stuff like this that keeps me checking the forum daily. I'd never know otherwise. I use ramps anyway. Thnx Greg.

When working on the car, I use ramps.

When I get a flat tire on the side of the road....I use a scissor jack.

When working with the car on ramps, and mucking around with the suspension, sometimes the scissor jack comes in handy where a hydraulic jack is too big.

To be honest, right now I am not carrying anything in the trunk of my XJS since I cleaned the trunk, steamed it and renewed several pieces, I don’t want the old nasty jack inside my new tool-bag.......

I used to carry all sorts of tools and “emergency kits” in my cars all the time. Until one day it dawned on me that a) the XJS and E have never left me stranded, only the X type and b)all my cars have roadside assistance.-which is what I have used when said X type has left me stranded. .....no need for me to carry all sorts of things around. There is nothing more pleasant than opening the trunk of a beautiful car and have it be as clean and neat as the rest of the vehicle

I’ve only needed my jack one time. I fishtailed making a right hand turn from and exit, going pretty slow actually, and the back wheels broke loose and I hit a curb...hard. Looked like my rim was destroyed, but I wasn’t loosing air.

I still pulled over at a gas station and put the full sized spare on. Spent about $100 for a new rim and I’m back in business.

If you have no need for a jack, are you sure you need the spare in there? Might as well clean it all out!

Yeah, it’s part of the original arrangement, so there is that. I am stickler for such things lol
