right headlight only works with hight beam on.

Hello i recently switched on my bright lights for a friend right after starting my 88' XJS. It immediately blew the right headlight. when i switch into bright mode however all four lights work. The fuse in the black fuse box for headlights right main beam which was supposed to be a 7.5 was a 10. i don't know where to go from here. did i possibly damage something with the higher fuse in there?

I'm not sure if I fully understand what you've said but it sorta sounds like the the low beam element of the RH outboard lamp burned out.

When you swithed back to high beams the high beam element of the RH outboard lamp came on, as it should.

If that's the case, replacing the RH outboard lamp should fix you right up.

Cheers

I had this problem, actually check the fuse with a voltmeter, they go bad sometimes I've found. also.check each one by removing and cleaning the socket. mine did that, then othettimes one side would light up and the other wouldn't.

Thanks for the help. It did turn out to simply be the bulb. I was under the impression it wasn't burned out because it still worked in bright mode. I plugged in the one from the left side and it worked fine. will be ordering a new bulb now. -Thanks
