Seat removal

This is a 1996 XJS Convertible.
Hi all, I've pulled the gear pins from both front seats to remove and then repair the bad electric seat motors but I cant move the seats forward or back. Ive tried a hammer and 2x4 but they refuse to budge.

Any help on getting them to move?

Thanks

Bill

You could try a pry bar? Mine were very hard to move. I'm a big guy, so I sat in the seat and forced with my legs. Even then it took a few hard presses

Bill,

Just to clarify, have you removed the four bolts on each seat (2 at the front, 2 at the back on each seat)?

It sounds like his seats motor isn't working, but he is trying to get to the bolts to pull the seat. However even with the front pins pulled he can't get it to move to get to the bolts

TiR,

Ah, I see what you mean.

Tks

Removed the "gear pins"? Are you referring to the electrical connectors that power the movement of each seat? Also, you have yet to remove any of the 4 mounting bolts on each seat? If this is the case -- disconnecting the power source to each seat has cut off any power to the seat. Therefore, the seat motor and any additional component will NOT function. Reconnect the "gear pins" and start over.

No, under the seat there are two star shaped pins that connect the motor to the rails. Pulling these makes it capable to move the seat , albeit forcefully usually, without the motors working. So you can get to the bolts to remove the seat

To update, earlier in the thread I was able to restore power. The seat is/was maxing out in the forward position wayyyy too early so I couldn't get to the rear bolts on the passenger seat. I did get the driver seat removed.

Also, with everyone's help and guidance I decided to shove a 2' long screwdriver up and down the rails. It got jammed at one point and I just kept ramming it in until it broke through.

After this, seat moved fully forward.

Thanks to everyone's help, seats and carpet are now out as of today! Water clean-up next!
