Something else to do.
Broke down in Bournemouth with a duff altenator and had to be relayed back to London. Found a new 120amp single V belt drive one on ebay that by all accounts is a direct fit. Something to do, I suppose.

Sorry to hear. Glad you got back ok. I was trailered home in my 4 litre last year when the alternator packed up and drained the battery to the point that the car cut out. Because of Covid, I had to sit in the car whilst on the back of the trailer which felt quite weird! The recovery guy told me that I couldn't turn the ignition on to listen to the radio. When I asked why not, he replied that it was dangerous in case I started the car and inadvertently put it in Drive. I told him that if I could start the car, I wouldn't have been sitting on the back of his trailer to start with! Needless to say, I did listen to the radio! I was able to get my alternator rebuilt with a replacement diode pack.
As a matter of interest, what was the alternator make and model that you fitted? Cheers Paul |
High Paul. The one that packed up was a bosch 110 amp off an xj40 that I fitted a few years ago to upgrade my charging system as i have fitted twin electric fans. The one I got from eBay evidently fits straight swap, according to jag lovers forum. Won't be here till Monday though.

Fyi if you have an air pump, I found it easier to get mine out the bottom by disconnecting the sway bar end links and oil line from the bottom of the engine sandwich plate.
