strut and shock observer replacement
 
I'm planning on replacing my suspension on my 1988 jaguar xjs. How many struts/shock absorbers does it have ? What brand strut/absorbers you recommend ? Is there a video or images i can look to see on how to replace it. Thank you for the help.

It has 6 shock absorbers. 2 in the front, 4 in the rear. Original shocks are from Boge. Kayaba Gas A Just is supposed to be a good upgrade.

I just did this job last weekend, it's a piece of cake (on my 4.0l). I used the following:

Front:

Gabriel 69677 $28

Rear:

SACHS 311347 $38


The fronts took about 45 mins to do and the rears about two hours because you have to compress and remove the coil springs then put them back on like a normal strut on spring car.

Front replacement is easy. Und the top nut in the engine bay, undo the screw in the bracket behind the wheel and then lift the body. They should just pop out. The rears come out as a unit with the spring (so spring compressor is required). I think you can do them still in the car but it might be easier to drop the rear subframe (not fully remove it). Basically undo the lower fulcrum shaft, undo the top bolt and it comes out. If you have a look, it is all selfexplaining :)
