Tevez brakes
morning all, are there any dos and don’t regarding bleeding the tevez brakes . The system has been completely drained to fit all new lines calipers etc . The motor has been off as well as the brake pedal out and so the system has been completely dry. I don’t want to burn the motor out or make any other mistakes. Thanks. |
one very important thing... dont use lots of leg power when pumping. You can easily blow a seal at the pump. Other than that Im sure you have a write up to follow?

You can not bleed the rear brakes by pumping the pedal, it WILL NOT work.
My procedure. 1 Pump the sprayer up and bleed all the brakes start at the rear left, open the nipple. Careful to ensure you do not run the reservoir dry. 2 Once all the air is out pump the sprayer up again and turn on the ignition the ABS pump should run for 20-40 seconds then turn off. Turn the ignition off. 3 Re-bleed the all the brakes again I used a garden sprayer and a 1" rubber plug to pump pressure into the reservoir then open the rear left nipple and bleed into a container. Hi Brinny
One of the most important things when Bleeding the Brakes on an XJS which is fitted with the Teves Master Cylinder Actuator, is to Bleed the Low Pressure Side of the System The other thing being that when you Bleed the Rear Brakes, this needs to be done with the Ignition ON, although you must NEVER let the Brake Pump run for more than 30 Seconds without a 2 minute rest in between ON/OFF Actuations of the Ignition Key to let the Brake Pump Cool Down And Never let the Reservoir run out of Brake Fluid, or you will have to start all over again Also you need to bear in mind that Bleeding the Brakes is probably going to make a bit of a mess, as the Low Pressure Side of the System, needs to be done Live on 'The Fly' with Brake Fluid running out under gravity So have plenty of Rag handy as well as a bucket of Soapy Water to mop up any Spills and needless to say do not allow any Brake Fluid to get on the Paint Work or it will literally strip it in an instant The Full procedure that I use and suggested to forum member Johnathan is described here:Bleeding The Teves Master Cylinder Actuator On The Teves Master Cylinder Actuator |

With the pressure bleeding system you don't need to bleed the low pressure side. The pressure will force fluid into the pump. Step 2 will ensure there is no air in the pump. This is much easier than doing it the as per the ROM. You do not need to open the brake line between the reservoir and ABS pump.
