Default turning chrome black

I have the windshield chrome trim off of my '87 since I'm working on getting the window gasket replaced. After sitting and staring at it for awhile, I really like the look of it without the chrome trim. Since I'll never, ever have the money to restore it to factory condition, I'm leaning towards "personalizing it", which may mean doing away with a large amount of the chrome.

At first blush painting the chrome black would seem to be the simple answer, but I'm not sure how well black paint would stick.

Any thoughts on how to turn chrome into flat black?

Thanks!

I second the Plast-Dip idea. If you change your mind it's easily reversible, it looks good enough for what you want to do, and it's easy enough to apply.
